Mr. Porreca represented a Maplewood, New Jersey man who was the passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for running a red light. After they stopped the car, the police smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The police also observed that "flakes of greenish-brown vegetation", were all over the front of the passenger's pants. After searching the man, the police located two small plastic zip-lock baggies containing a greenish-brown vegetation, later confirmed by laboratory testing to be marijuana. Although charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, in violation of N.J.S.A. (2C:35-1044), Mr. Porreca was able to secure a Conditional Discharge for this defendant.
- Mr. Porreca was retained by a Morris Plains' woman who was charged with shoplifting from the J.C. Penny Store at the Rockaway Mall. Even though the value of the merchandise was $442.71, Mr. Porreca convinced the State to downgrade this charge to a local ordinance violation. The defendant paid only a fine, and did not receive any jail time.

Mr. Porreca represented a Wharton New Jersey woman who was charged with a violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3(A), theft of prescription blanks from her treating physician. This defendant applied for Pre-Trial Intervention, but was rejected by both the program and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. After filing an appeal motion, the prosecutor's office agreed to allow this defendant into the Pre-Trial intervention Program.
